Invollv Case Studies
IGne Industries identified a critical need in the local market: finding a skilled, reliable, and trustworthy handyman for home repairs is often a frustrating process of guesswork and unreliable online reviews. Their vision was Bolo—a mobile app designed to disrupt the informal gig economy by seamlessly connecting individuals with a vetted network of the most skillful craftsmen, from plumbers and electricians to carpenters and painters.
Bolo’s mission is to eliminate the stress of home repairs by guaranteeing quality, transparency, and reliability.
The core challenge of any marketplace app is balancing the needs of two distinct user groups. For Bolo to succeed, it must provide an exceptional experience for both:
For Homeowners: The app must feel incredibly simple, safe, and reliable. Users need immediate trust that the person coming into their home is skilled, vetted, and fairly priced.
For Handymen: The app must be an efficient tool for finding work, managing their schedule, and getting paid easily. It should feel professional and empower them to grow their business.
The initial concept needed a user experience that could bridge this gap intuitively, building a foundation of trust that would encourage adoption on both sides.
The Invollv UI/UX team didn’t just start designing screens. We began with a deep-dive collaboration with the ideators at IGne Industries.
Identifying Similarities & Patterns: Through workshops, we analyzed successful marketplace models (like Uber, Thumbtack, etc.) to deconstruct what makes them work. We identified key patterns: transparent pricing, robust rating systems, and in-app communication.
User Journey Mapping: We mapped the emotional and practical journey for both homeowners (frustration → relief → trust) and handymen (finding work → managing jobs → getting paid).
Defining Core Features: This process helped us prioritize the Minimum Viable Product (MVP) features, such as:
A streamlined booking process with clear service categories.
A rigorous, multi-step vetting and profile system for handymen.
In-app messaging and map-feature management.
A transparent rating and review system.
This project is currently in an active state of refinement. Our team is:
Iterating on Wireframes: Testing different user flows to find the most intuitive path for booking and management.
Prototyping Key Interactions: Building interactive prototypes to test the feel of critical actions like sending a quote or booking a job.
Preparing for High-Fidelity Design: The foundational UX architecture is being solidified before we apply the final visual layer (UI).
This meticulous, strategy-first approach ensures that when the final high-fidelity designs are delivered, they will not only be beautiful but also functionally sound and primed for development success.
The Bolo project exemplifies the Invollv approach to product design:
We Are Strategic Partners: We don’t just design what we’re told; we collaborate to ask the right questions and define the best product strategy.
We Solve Complex Problems: Designing a two-sided marketplace is a significant UX challenge that we are tackling through methodical research and structured design thinking.
We Build Foundations: Our focus on robust wireframing and prototyping ensures the final product will be built on a solid, user-centric foundation, saving time and resources in development.
We are thrilled to be partnering with IGne Industries to help build Bolo into a trusted household name.
